June Newton, 92, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 8:09 am on August 31, 2024, at Centralia Manor in Centralia, Illinois. She was born February 9, 1932, in Jefferson County, Illinois to the late Albert Jesse and Cecil Rose (Shores) Braddy. Alberta married Max Newton in 1948. He preceded her in death in 1996.
June is survived by her son, James A. Newton of Sesser, Illinois; daughters, Carmen E. Webb and husband, Marvin of Opdyke, Illinois and Carla J. Newton and husband, Lendell Fullerton of Salem, Illinois; grandchildren, Scott Webb of Opdyke, Larae Webb of McLeansboro, Illinois, Caressa Weber of Salem, and Seth Newton and wife, Haley of Herrin, Illinois; great-granddaughter, Hazel Newton; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and beloved husband, June was preceded in death by her infant son, Max Lee Newton, Jr.; and sisters, Shirley Devore, Pat Tolley, and Betty Owens.
June worked as a nurse for many years. She was a Christian and loved the Lord. June will be remembered as a devoted mother, cherished grandmother, and dear friend to many.
A Graveside Service will be held Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at 10:30 am at Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Vernon with Mr. Britt Fullerton officiating. Interment will follow. Memorials may be made in June’s honor to the Centralia Humane Society.
