Shirley Troutt, age 86, of Centralia, IL, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 27th, 2024 at Fireside Nursing Home in Centralia surrounded by her family.
She was born in Centralia, Illinois on Sunday, April 24th, 1938 to the late Alvin and Martha (Owens) Melton. She married Robert Donald Troutt on July 14, 1956, in Centralia and he preceded her in death on March 20, 2011, after 54 years of marriage.
Shirley is survived by her son David Troutt and a daughter Martha (John) Haywood; grandchildren, Anna Troutt, Julie McPhail Alli, Misty Cooley, Brittany Troutt, Ashley Troutt, Tanya Deboer, Frank Frazier, Jr., Donnie Frazier, Jamie Houle, Joshua Houle, Zach Houle, Cierra Balkenbaush, Charlonda Haywood and John Haywood, Jr.; 34 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings Junior Melton, Carolyn Hill, Steve Melton, Lloyd Melton, and Louise Tate, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Robert Donald Troutt, daughters Ruth Frazier and Jackie Houle Spiegel, grandson Jeffrey Troutt, and siblings, Robert Melton, Phyllis Torum, and Sherry Howard, sons-in-law, Frank Frazier and Dan Spiegel brothers, and sisters-in-law Ernie and Viola Troutt, Edith and Dale Faught, Carl Hill, and Linda Melton.
Shirley worked at the Kas Potato Chip Factory for over 25 years before retiring. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially cooking Sunday dinners for everyone. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart.
Funeral services will be held at Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia on Thursday, September 5th, 2024 at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Woodlawn. A Visitation for family and friends will take place at Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Thursday, September 5th, 2024 with the funeral service following.
