The Marion County Health Department is reporting one additional COVID-19 related death on Thursday bringing the county’s death toll to 90.  The death was a male in his 70s who was not a long term care resident.

Eight other deaths were reported across South Central Illinois.  They include a male in his 70s and a female over 100 in Clay County, a female in her 80s in Fayette County, males in their 60s and 80s and a female in her 70s in Jefferson County, and two females in their 90s in Washington County.   Across the state 146 additional deaths were reported.

The Marion County Health Department is reporting 16 new COVID-19 cases.  Four are long term care residents.  None were students.  The health department reports nine of the new cases are the result of community spread and seven are believed to be from household or close contacts.

There are now 307 active cases, including nine in the hospital.  Of those, three are on ventilators.   There were 60 released from isolation on Thursday, bringing the total number recovered to 2,207.

The Clinton County Health Department reported 61 new positive cases.  495 are on home isolation and 13 are hospitalized.   The county has now surpassed 4,000 positive cases, with the current total of 4,040.

Jefferson County is reporting 36 new cases, with 311 active cases in isolation.

Washington County Health Department is reporting 49 new cases for Tuesday and Wednesday.   There are 161 active cases, including 55 linked to outbreaks.  Six are hospitalized.   The total number of cases in Washington County has now topped 1,000 and is at 1,031.  The two deaths reported on Wednesday brings the number of deaths to 10.

Fayette County reported 30 new cases on Wednesday.   The additional death brings the number of deaths in the county to 41.

The Clay County Health Department reported ten new cases on Tuesday.

Wayne County Health Department reported nine new cases.  116 are currently isolating and four are hospitalized.

Statewide there were 7,123 new cases on Wednesday.   The statewide positivity rate for the past seven days is now 8.5-percent.  The Southern Illinois Region’s positivity rate is 11.4-percent for the week ending December 13th.  Marion County’s seven-day positivity rate fell to single digits at 9.8-percent.   The Metro East Region positivity rate is 12.4-percent.   The East Central Region positivity rate has fallen to 8.6-percent.

Hospital bed issues continue with only 15-percent of ICU beds available in the Southern Illinois Region and 16-percent of Med-Serg beds in the Metro-East region.
