Jacquelyn Kaye Ellis, 79, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 7:27 pm on June 23, 2024, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in Saint Louis, Missouri. She was born February 7, 1945, in Mount Vernon, Illinois to the late Thomas Merrill and Lula Jane (Lemons) Harvill. Jacquelyn married David “Butch” William Ellis on May 2, 1964 in Mount Vernon, Illinois. They were blessed with nearly forty-nine years of marriage before he preceded her in death on March 23, 2013.
Jacquelyn is survived by her son, Steven Ellis and wife, Cameo of Mount Vernon, Illinois; daughters, Cynthia Ellis and Rebecca Myers and husband, Michael, all of Mount Vernon, Illinois; grandchildren, Kimberly Fielding and wife, Regina of Florida, Racheal Mendez and husband, Rafael of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Brandon Ellis of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Makayla Jordan and husband, Wayne of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Danielle Finney of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Joshua Myers and Marisa of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Jessica Merriam and husband, Alex of Opdyke, Illinois, Keagan Myers and fiancée, Allison of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Cameron Myers and fiancée, Lily of Bluford, Illinois; great-grandchildren, Abigail, Ava, and Michael McMahon, Jayden Ellis, Jenna Finney, Ryan Merriam, Madison Ellis, McKenna and Savanna Finney, Mason Morris, Abigail, Christian, Zoey, and Mackayle Jordan, and Isla and Tatum Mendez, all of Mount Vernon, Illinois; sisters, Melba Miller, Sandy Fields, and Rita Albright, all of Mount Vernon, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Jacquelyn was preceded in death by her son, David Ellis, and sisters, Sue Garrison and Janet Milligan
Jacquelyn was a member of West Side Baptist Church and later South Side Baptist Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be dearly missed.
A Visitation will be held Thursday, June 27, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Graveside Service will be held Friday, June 28, 2024, at 10:00 am at Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Reverend Calvin Trotter officiating. Interment will follow. Memorials may be made in Jacquelyn’s honor to Oakwood Cemetery.
