On June 22, 2024, at 3:30 am at his home, Douglas Allen “Dug” Drenckpohl passed from this life. He arrived in heaven shortly afterward where he was adorned not with wings, but rather a Jägermeister cape for him to wear for eternity.
Dug began this life on July 18th, 1971. He was born to his mother Glenna Martin Drenckpohl and his father Douglas Drenckpohl. In his youth, he attended Patoka schools. There he began to hone his skill for tormenting his teachers and friends with his quick wit. Some of his best friendships were forged at this time in his life and he remains friends with them to this day. In grade school, Dug also began a lifelong love of music. He played in the school band with his best friend and bandmate, Kyle DeVore. Playing music with Kyle was one of Dug’s favorite things in life. There would be many people with whom Dug shared the stage over the years. While too many to name, they were some of his most cherished friendships.
On June 4, 1993, Dug welcomed his best accomplishment into the world, his twin boys Bryce and Brandon. He loved his boys fiercely. In their own ways, they both represent the quiet gentleness while at same time, the big personality that was Dug. Bryce resides in Salem with his significant other Sabrina, while Brandon lives in Sandoval.
On April 17, 2014, surrounded by family and friends, Dug married Brandy Holmes in Charleston, SC. Together they built a life full of adventure and love. Their most recent adventure was purchasing and remodeling the ABC Pub in Salem. Brandy survives at their home in Odin.
Dug’s passion for music was rivaled only by his love of travel. Every April, Dug and Brandy visited Folly Beach, SC with friends to celebrate their anniversary. On many of these trips, he married his love of travel and music by bringing along his musician friends and playing gigs. Whether snorkeling in the islands, enjoying music at Jazz Fest in New Orleans or most recently, drinking fruity cocktails by the pool in Mexico, Dug was sure to be the life of the party.
When he wasn’t working at his beloved ABC Pub, Dug could also be found sailing the waters of Carlyle Lake. He had dreamed of owning a Gemini catamaran, the first to make its way to Carlyle. That dream was fulfilled when his new boat was delivered last July. Some of his most enjoyable days were spent with friends and family on the lake.
Dug loved his entire family deeply. He is also survived by his siblings; Rich Drenckpohl and wife Stacy, Jim Howe and wife Tina, Paula Winkler and husband James, Tammy McMeen and significant other Norm and many nieces and nephews. Dug’s favorite way to celebrate at Christmas was sharing stories about his childhood adventures with his siblings.
Dug was preceded in death by his parents and his nephew, Michael “Keith” Tolliver.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Noon on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Memorial contributions can be made to the Salem Animal Shelter or the Warrior Nation Cancer Foundation and can be received at the funeral home.
