The Marion County Health Department is reporting one COVID-19 related death and 41 new cases on Tuesday.

The death was a man in his 60s.   He was not a long term care resident.  The death was the 72nd COVID related death in Marion County since the pandemic began.

Several other deaths were also reported in the region on Tuesday by the Illinois Department of Public Health.   They include a male in his 50s in Clay County, a male in his 60s in Clinton County,  and a male in his 80s in Washington County.    There was also a death of a male and female in their 80s in Effingham County.

The Marion County Health Department reports of the 41 new cases two are long term care residents.  Six are students.  Contact tracing is underway on two of them.  The other four were not in school during their infectious periods since their schools are on full remote learning.   15 of the cases are considered community spread and 26 are household or close contacts.

There are now 358 active cases, including nine who are in the hospital.  Two of those are on vents.  The health department released 31 from isolation on Tuesday.  A total of 1,942 have now recovered.   There have now been 36,405 tests completed on Marion County residents.

The Clinton County Health Department is reporting 35 new positive cases.  There are now 578 on home isolation and 20 who are hospitalized.

The Jefferson County Health Department is reporting 26 new positive cases.  There are currently 240 active cases.

Fayette County is reporting 31 new positive cases, including eight from congregate care facilities.

Clay County Health Department is reporting 14 new cases on Monday.

The Wayne County Health Department is reporting 12 new cases.  155 are in isolation and five are hospitalized.

Statewide, there were 7,910 new cases reported.

For the first time in several weeks, the seven day positivity rate has fallen to 9.9-percent.   The Southern Illinois Region positivity rate has dropped to 12.7-percent.   The Marion County rate is 14.3-percent.   The Metro-East Region remains at 15.1-percent.  The East Central Region has dropped to 11.9-percent positivity for the past seven days.
