The Marion County Board has reorganized and re-elected Debbie Smith as board chairman for the coming two years.

The only no vote came from Wes Goza who had nominated Judith Meeks Hakim for chairman.

Board Vice-Chair Dr. Creighton Engle was then re-elected without opposition.

Smith expects the coming two years to be challenging.

“The next two years are going to be probably harder than the last two years because we are dealing with COVID and more restricted funding.  But we seem to be in the black which is a good start for the fiscal year.  I believe all the board members are very accountable and responsible for representing the residents in the county so I look forward to going forward and I think we are going to be fine.”

Smith says there are several unresolved issues that need to be addressed including determination if Salem Township is wet or dry.

Two new board members were sworn in. Christopher Krupp is representing District Four and David Iossi District Five.

Six others were sworn in for additional terms. They are Angie Heistand in District 1, Dr. Creighton Engle in District 2, Steven Whritenour and Judith Shafer in District 3, Judith Meeks Hakim in District 4, and Adam Smith in District 5.
