The United Methodist Church in Kinmundy has donated $3,500 to the City of Kinmundy to allow for creation of a nature trail around the old city lake. The city is redeveloping the land for recreational use after a lease on the land by a zip-line operator ended a few years ago. The new nature trail is expected to be completed by fall. A new boat dock has also been added.
The Kinmundy Board has approved the police department spending up to $800 for ID kits for kids. The kits will be given to parents to provide the information to police if the child ever goes missing. The board also approved putting a sign in the window of the police department to better identify its location.
Kinmundy Mayor Angie Diss says an arrangement to share its police officer with Alma is going well during its first few months. Under the agreement, the police officer spends at least two hours each day he is on duty in Alma. Diss says the emphasis in the past month in both communities is on ordinance violation for tall grass and weeds. Alma pays $1,000 per month for the police service and has disbanded their own police department.
The Kinmundy Board of Alderman also approved a nepotism policy. It will ban close relatives to serve on any Kinmundy board if they are related to a member of the city council. It will also ban two relatives from being appointed to serve on the same board.
The board also passed its annual appropriation ordinance. It is about the same as last year. It does include money for a new computer for the city offices.
The board was told the city wide cleanup went well with two and a half dumpsters of regular items collected and along with another two dumpsters of metal.
