Rebecca Lynn Witzel, 70, of Irvington, IL passed away Sunday, June 9, 2024, at SSM Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, IL.

She was born September 30, 1953, the daughter of Robert and Alice (Yanke) Williams in DeKalb, IL. She married the love of her life, Roger Witzel on August 1, 1981, in Dekalb, IL and he survives in Irvington, IL.

Along with her devoted husband of 42 years, Roger Witzel, Rebecca is survived by her children, Erin Sherill of Pecatonica, IL, Eric Witzel and wife Margot of Kirkland, IL, and Ian Witzel and Kim Elderbrook of Longmont, CO; precious grandchildren, Madison, Scott, and Shawna; her twin brother, Paul Williams of Tensed, ID; sister, Debbie Tyra and husband Jerry of Baldwyn, MS; her mother and father-in-law, Virginia and Charles R. Witzel; and nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. Rebecca was preceded in death by her parents.

Rebecca was a blessing to everyone who was fortunate to share their lives with her. She was a delight to spend time with and had an amazing ability
to bring encouragement and positivity into every situation. Rebecca, as an avid reader, loved the beauty of the written word and spent many enjoyable days engrossed in the plot of a good book. She found the art of crochet relaxing and she liked to share her creations with friends and family. Rebecca will be fondly remembered as the most loving grandma, patiently nurturing her grandchildren and making lasting memories of baking delicious treats together. Rebecca had a contagious smile, generous heart, and her kindness will never be forgotten.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 13, 2024, at the Fouts Christian Church in Centralia with Pastor Jerry Wilson officiating. Friends and relatives are welcome to a visitation time from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the church. Memorials may be made in Rebecca’s honor to the American Cancer Society in Illinois and will be accepted for the family at Irvin Macz Funeral Home 234 South Elm St. Centralia, IL 62801.
