Salem City Council to be asked to increase water tap on fees

The Salem City Council Monday night will be asked to increase water tap on fees.

Public Works Director Travis Sanders is requesting the increase to reflect the price increases on materials needed for the taps.   The proposed cost increase would be from $1,100 to $1,500 for a three-quarter-inch tap, from $1,400 to $2,500 for a one-inch tap, and from $4,300 to $6,500 for a two-inch tap.  Taps over two inches will be the cost of materials plus five percent.

A request to vacate a section of Jefferson Street between Mitchell Street and the railroad tracks that was never developed will come before the council.  There will also be a request to vacate the east/west section of an alley off of Vincent Street being requested by Rich Sinclair for the area near his State Farm office at 1007 West Main.

The council will be asked to purchase a new tractor with a side boom mower for the landfill for $123,389 plus a trade-in of the existing tractor and mower.   The mower will be purchased through the state bid process because of the lower cost.

The council will be asked to surplus a gas department backhoe, a zero-turn mower at the animal control facility, and a large air compressor in the mechanic’s shop.   After being surplused, they will be put up for public bid.

The meeting begins at six on Monday night at Salem City Hall.
