James A. “Jim” Smith, 78, of Centralia, passed away Sunday, November 29, 2020 at SSM Health St. Clare Hospital in Fenton, Missouri. Jim and his wife Rosalie owned and operated Jim Smith Tank Service and Jim Smith Lawn Service for many years. He enjoyed collecting antiques and hunting. He was a lifetime member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Centralia. Jim will be remembered as a father, grandfather, son, brother and uncle with a heart bigger than the world.

A Private Family Funeral Service for James “Jim” Smith will be held at a later date with Entombment in the Hillcrest Lakeside Mausoleum in Centralia. He is survived by seven children: J.T. Smith and wife Amanda of Centralia, Tina Smith of Kalona, Iowa, Lisa Smith and Scott Hanson of San Diego, California, Cheryl Smith McNalley and husband Scott of Carterville, Illinois, Tammy Goss and husband Jim of Iowa City, Iowa, Anthony L. Vest and wife Penny of Centralia, and Mark Vest of Centralia; 18 grandchildren: B.J. Smith, Macie Smith, Jerzi Smith, Jaile Smith, Braydin Smith, Payton Smith, Reagan Smith, Michael Swickard, Mark Swickard, Kendall Smith, Kelsey Slay, Taylor Albright, Jimmy Goss, Mackenzie Goss, Brandon Cook and wife Tiphani, Dylan Cook, Laci Vest and Mark Vest, Jr.; 14 great-grandchildren; brother: Ron Smith and wife Patricia of Centralia; and nieces and nephews.

Jim was born November 21, 1942 in Centralia, the son of Nolan Smith and Helen (Williams) Smith. He married Rosalie Gale Hellmyer on February 22, 1979 and she preceded him in death on June 30, 2019. Jim was preceded in death by his parents: Nolan and Helen Smith; wife: Rosalie Gale Smith; two brothers: Gary and Bob Smith; a nephew: Brian Smith.
