The Illinois Department of Public Health on Sunday announced 7,178 new confirmed and probable cases of coronavirus disease.   There were also 57 additional deaths reported.

The IDPH reports two of those deaths occurred in Fayette County and involved two men in their 80s.   The only other Southern Illinois deaths reported were four in Madison County.

The latest seven-day positivity rate for the state is at 10.1-percent.  The Southern Illinois Region’s positive rate for the seven days ending November 26th is 12.2-percent.   The Marion County Rate is at 13.6-percent.  The Metro-East Region is at 13.9-percent.  The East Central Illinois Region is at a seven-day positivity rate of 12-percent.

You’ll be able to get tested for COVID-19 at the Marion County Fairgrounds beginning Monday through next Sunday.  The drive through testing will be offered from nine am to four pm daily.

The testing is open to anyone if you have symptoms or no symptoms.  A simple nasal swab will be used.  There is no cost for the testing.  Please bring your insurance card, but you can still be tested if you do not have insurance.

No appointment is needed.   You must have a valid phone number because you will be called with the results within 4 to 7 days.   Face masks are required.
