Centralia City Firemen were able to confine a fire in the basement of a home occupied by Jerry Mulvin at 309 South Lincoln to a clothes dryer Monday afternoon.
Centralia City Firefighters say smoke was pouring from a basement door at the rear of the home on their arrival. They were able to quickly extinguish the fire and then used an ejection fan to remove smoke from the basement. Firemen say the only damage will be to the clothes dryer that was destroyed. There was no structural or lasting smoke damage to the residence.
Mulvin had tried unsuccessfully to put out the fire with two extinguishers before the fire department arrived.
Centralia Police and ESDA units assisted with traffic control while two Life Star ambulances were on the scene if the need arose.
There were no injuries. An off duty shift was called in to cover the station in the event of another fire. Firemen were on the scene for just under an hour.
