A 23-year-old Army soldier from the East Central Illinois community of Watseka is one of five soldiers killed in a helicopter crash on Thursday while on a peacekeeping mission in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula.
Sergeant Jeremy Cain Sherman was part of an international force that monitors the four-decade-old Israeli-Egyptian peace agreement. They were on what was said to be a routine mission when the Black Hawk helicopter crashed near a resort town on the Red Sea.
The Army said Saturday the crash is still under investigation.
