Salem Firemen were called out twice Saturday to fight a fire in corn stubble and a wooded area at 3085 State Route 161east of Centralia. The initial fire came in at 4:30 when a fire had spread through a cut field of corn and into a wooded area. Kell Firemen brought a brush truck to assist at the scene while Odin Firemen stood by at the Salem Fire Station in the event of another fire. When the fire rekindled in the tree line around nine Saturday night, Salem Firemen were called back to extinguish the fire. No property damage was reported.
Kell Firemen were called out twice on Saturday to a leaf fire that had spread to a large dead tree next to the road on the Joe Duffy property at 7032 Kell Road in rural Texico. Firemen initially responded at 2 Saturday afternoon and were called back to the scene at 6:18 Saturday evening. No other damage was reported.
