Sandra Banes, 76, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 10:20 pm on October 29, 2020, at her residence surrounded by her family.
Sandra was a CNA at Mount Vernon Health Care Center and was very proud of her job. She loved her dogs and flower garden, but most of all, Sandra loved the time she shared with her children and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and adored her.
Per her wishes, Sandra will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made in Sandra’s honor to her great-granddaughter, Madalynn Banes’ Medical Expenses, in care of Randy Banes, Sr. Madalynn is on a waiting list for a multi-organ transplant. She was born on October 1, 1944, in Ina, Illinois to the late James and Juanita (Johnson) Browning. Sandra married Leslie “Les” Banes on August 1, 1961, in Mount Vernon. They were blessed with 59 years of marriage.
In addition to her beloved husband, Sandra is survived by her children, Randy Banes of Bonnie, Illinois, Jeff Banes and wife, Denise of Mount Vernon, Sue Ann Fitzpatrick and husband, Mark of Mount Vernon, Kathy Wix and husband, Jeff of Mount Vernon, and Amy Poorman and husband, Troy of Woodlawn, Illinois; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Moyer, and husband, Ron of Mount Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Sandra was preceded in death by her siblings, Daniel Browning, Pat Hudgens, and Jean Ann Howell.
