The Marion County Fairgrounds is planning special activities this weekend ahead of the full solar eclipse on Monday afternoon.

Fair Board President Doug Telford says the fair’s first ever BBQ cook off is one of the activities set for Saturday.

“Saturday we will have a bags tournament and we will also do a BBQ cookoff, it is not a sanctioned one but hoping to get there someday.  Had good response from participants entering and how it will work is after they turn their meats in, we will sell arm bands you can buy and go sample the food.  They will be judged and there will be prize money for them.”

Telford says the fairgrounds will also have special event camping for the weekend and Monday.  Those who camp will get free admissions to the fairgrounds on Monday for the solar eclipse.

Telford says they will also have parking for the eclipse viewing at the fairgrounds on Monday for $20 per car.

There will be food trucks at the fairgrounds Saturday through Monday.

Telford, like those organizing other events, are not sure how many people to expect but will be ready for out of town visitors.
