It was a busy day Monday and early Tuesday morning for the Salem Fire Protection District.
The day started with a report of a controlled burn getting close to a mobile home on McCoy Road off the Selmaville Road southwest of Salem. When firemen got there, the owner indicated he could take care of the fire himself.
Firemen later responded to a riding lawn mower on fire at the Ron Potter residence on Quail Run Road northeast of Salem. Potter was using the mower when the fire started. It was destroyed. The cause is believed to be mechanical. There were no injuries or other damage.
The third fire was on the Rod Pollard property in the 4200 block of County Farm Road where a controlled burn started to burn into the woods. Just under two acres of underbrush burned. No buildings were threatened.
The final call came during the heavy storm activity early Tuesday morning. Firemen were called to a residence in the 5400 block of Charleston Road where the owners smelled smoke during the power outage. Firemen couldn’t find the smoke odor or any fire. Kinmundy-Alma Firemen joined them on the scene. Odin firemen stood by at the Salem Fire Station in the event of another fire.
