Carolyn Sue Neal, 79, of Dahlgren, Illinois, passed away at 9:10 am October 21, 2020 at Hamilton Memorial Nursing Home in McLeansboro, Illinois. Sue worked as a Spanish and English teacher for 36 years. She spent 12 years at McLeansboro High School, 22 years, at Emery County High School in Utah, and 2 years at Rend Lake College. While living in Utah, Sue was the Association Director for the State of Utah and Sunday School Superintendent. Sue taught Sunday school and was the pianist at her church in Utah. Sue was a faithful member of Ten Mile Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Sue was a long time member of the Christian Motorcycle Association. She enjoyed riding the motorcycle with her husband. She loved traveling and saw over twenty countries, including Germany, China, Canada, Spain, Mexico, Ireland, Belgium, England, France, Australia, Brazil, Guatemala, Russia, and Scotland. She also traveled to all 50 states. Sue was greatly loved and will be missed by all who knew and adored her.
A Visitation will be held Saturday, October 24, 2020 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Ten Mile Baptist Church in McLeansboro, Illinois. The Memorial Service will begin with Mr. Jacob Gray officiating. Inurnment will follow at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Dahlgren, Illinois. Memorials may be made in honor of Carolyn’s daughter, Ladonna Richards, to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation or in memory of her daughter, Patty Zerger, to the Utah Organ Transplant Donor Program.Please remember to observe social distancing at this time. Sue married Donald Neal on January 28, 1961 in DeKalb, Illinois. They were blessed with nearly 60 years of marriage. In addition to her beloved husband, Sue is survived by her daughter, Ladonna Richards and husband, Frank of Dahlgren; grandchildren, Carmen Wiggins and husband, David of McLeansboro, Stacy Taylor and husband, Nathan of McLeansboro, Felicia Russell and husband, Ryan of Las Cruses, New Mexico, and Clint Richards and wife, Sydney of Dahlgren; great-grandchildren, Stella Wiggins, Grant Wiggins, Sylas Taylor, Lucy Taylor, Wesley Russell, Riley Russell, and Kenzi Richards; son-in-law, Dan Zerger of Silver City, New Mexico; daughter-in-law, Gloria Neal of Utah; niece, Reannon Overbey; and sister-in-law, Diane Overbey.
She was born December 18, 1940 in Dahlgren to the late George Ernest and Lela Pearl (Cross) Overbey. In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her children, Joey Ray Neal and Patricia Elaine Zerger; and brother, George Robert Overbey.
