Centralia High School students will have more career-related classes available to them in the future.

Superintendent Chuck Lane discussed the additions to the curriculum at Thursday night’s school board meeting.

“We’re working with Chief Dodson and KC on ushering in a career pathway for criminal justice.  The SRO officers can help teach a class for students who want to go inot the police or criminal justice field.”

Lane says technology classes are also being increased.

“Some kids don’t go to a 4-year school.  They can come here and take some classes and get started on a pathway to go to KC where you can graduate in two years with an Associates Degree and get a job.”

The board also learned a new one-semester class is being added in the English Department called “Thrillers and Mysteries”.

The board approved an eLearning plan that will allow for remote learning on what would have been snow days in the past. As long as five hours of instruction is completed on the eLearning days they will not have to be made up.

In other action, the board moved the November board date to Monday, Nov. 23, at 7 p.m. and the December date to Thursday, Dec. 17, at 4  p.m.
