A 47-year-old Marion man received what State Police are listing as life-threatening injuries following a crash involving a straight truck Tuesday night on I-64 at milepost 43.5 in Washington County.

A preliminary investigation indicates an SUV driven by Travis Akin was traveling eastbound on I-64 when he ran into a straight truck driven by 41-year-old Curtis Evans of Raleigh, North Carolina after it had overturned on its side. Evans problems began when he reportedly left the right side of the roadway, overcorrected, crossed both lanes before leaving the left side of the road, and traveled into the median. The truck then rolled as it re-entered the left lane and came to rest on its side in the left lane. Akin was unable to avoid the truck.

Akin was transported by ambulance to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. Evans was not hurt in the crash. He was ticketed for improper lane usage.

The road was closed for approximately three hours during the crash investigation. The crash occurred at 10:12 Tuesday night.
