Marion County had the fourth-highest number of bobcats killed during the recent hunting season that concluded on February 15th.
A total of 370 bobcats were harvested statewide, the most ever since the season began in 2016.
16 of those harvested were in Marion County with the breakout showing seven were killed by trapping, six by gun, two by archery, and one that was salvaged from circumstances such as road kill.
Fayette County had the third highest number harvested in the state with 17. Jefferson County had 12, Wayne County 11, Clay County eight, Clinton County five, and Washington County three.
Jo Daviess County in northwest Illinois had the highest number of bobcats harvested at 19.
There were seven thousand bobcat lottery applicants and 1,000 permits issued for the season.
