The Centralia Philharmonic Orchestra has worked around COVID-19 restrictions to hold a Drive-In Concert on Saturday night.
The President of the Philharmonic Orchestra Elizabeth Shuler says they wanted to do something.
“Summertime at the Centralia Cultural Society we decided we had to get things moving or as a lot of institutions through this COVID we were going to get lost. The orchestra decided we could do something within the confines of six feet apart. We wear masks with slits for our mouthpieces and things like that. We would do an outside parking lot concert and that is what we have been preparing for. That concert is Saturday night.”
Shuler says various parts of the orchestra will be playing.
“You should hear a variety of music from two full symphonic pieces, a Mozart piece and then a modern fabulous piece called Warrior Fanfare. Then we are going to have small groups that are going to perform. A String, Clarinet Quartet, Woodwind Group, and then a Brass Group.”
There will also be a guitar and featured soloist on ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’.
The Drive-In Concert is scheduled for 6:30 Saturday night in the Cultural Society Parking Lot at Rexford and Pleasant Street. Don’t worry if it gets a little cold, a low power FM transmitter will broadcast the concert to car radios in the parking lot.
The cost is $10 per person or $25 per carload. Baldy’s Food Truck will be there beginning at 5:30 to provide food and refreshments.
