State health officials are reporting that 3,059 cases of COVID-19 have been newly confirmed across Illinois. That’s the state’s highest new daily caseload since the pandemic initially peaked in May. Illinois last topped 3,000 daily coronavirus cases on May 14, when infections were confirmed among 3,239 people.
The state agency also reported Thursday 32 more COVID-19 fatalities, including a male in his 70s from Clay County.
The Marion County Health Department reported 15 new cases on Thursday. Administrator Melissa Mallow says eight of the cases are community spread and seven are household/close contacts. There are now 143 active cases, including 128 on home isolation and 15 in the hospital, three who are ventilators. 23 were released from isolation.
The Thursday cases range in age from a female in her teens to a female in her 90s. Mallow says the teen who tested positive is homeschooled.
Clinton County is reporting 12 new positive cases. 188 are currently on home isolation and seven are listed as hospitalized.
The Jefferson County Health Department had 21 new positives ranging in age from a female in her teens to three in their 70s. 113 cases are currently listed as active and in isolation.
Fayette County is reporting three new confirmed cases in their 20s to 40s. There are now 76 active confirmed cases. A new outbreak is being reported related to a county government building.
The Wayne County Health Department has four new positive cases ranging in age from a male in his mid-20s to two males in their 60s. There are 57 active cases and five who are currently hospitalized.
The state’s seven-day positivity rating increase to 3.7-percent with an additional 72,491 test results being tabulated before Thursday’s report. The Metro East Region remains at a 6.3-percent positivity rate and the Southern Illinois Region at 6.9-percent.
