Raccoon Grade School goes full remote learning due to COVID-19

Raccoon Grade School has gone to full remote learning until October 19th after two positive cases of COVID-19 showed up in the same class.

Superintendent Misty Johannes says the second positive test in one of the classes was made over the weekend when the decision was made with the advice of the Marion County Health Department to switch to remote learning beginning Monday.   Until that time, Raccoon students had been attending class five days a week with a 1:30 dismissal.

Johannes says during the six weeks they had in-person class, teachers spent about an hour a day doing lessons on Google Classroom to make sure students were ready to learn remotely if the school was ever forced to go on remote learning.

As part of the plan, teachers will continue to teach from their classrooms.  Wi-Fi access is being made available from the school parking lot for students who do not have Wi-Fi access at home.

Johannes says the first three days of remote learning have gone smoothly.

The Superintendent reports they have one additional positive case at the present time and one positive case earlier in the school year.   Johannes says the district has sent home a number of students with COVID-19 symptoms or who had family members awaiting the results of COVID-19 tests.

Raccoon Grade School is delivering meals to the home of students who have requested them.
