James William Carter, 58, of Mt. Vernon, passed away Friday, February 9, 2024, in Mt. Vernon.
He was born January 26, 1966, in Salem, Illinois, the son of Bobby Gene and Elva Jane (Long) Carter.
In addition to his mother, Elva Jane Carter of Mt. Vernon, he is survived by his children, Christian Carter of Bonnie, Maquel Brown and husband Andrew of Mt. Vernon, and JohnLuke Carter of Mt. Vernon; grandson, Carter Brown; sister, Lettie Johnson and husband Kenny of Mt. Vernon; brother, Hubert Carter of Mt. Vernon; nieces, Karissa Mooney and husband Ryan, Alicia Capps and husband Chris, Jessica Carter, Katelyn Carter, and Heather Carter; and nephew, Dillon Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bobby Gene Carter, and sister-in-law, Kim Carter.
Cremation rites for Mr. Carter have been accorded, and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
