On this day in 1943, the government declared a Wartime Ban on the Sale of Pre-Sliced Bread to conserve resources during World War 2. They were worried about the amount of additional wax paper used to wrap individual slices. So, from then on, only WHOLE LOAVES were sold until the end of World War 2.
