An investigation is underway into a suspicious fire that destroyed a small Mt. Vernon home Tuesday morning.
Fire Chief Kevin Sargent says the fire was at the Paul Miller home at 1318 South 18th Street. Flames and smoke were showing upon arrival.
Mt. Vernon Police upon arrival tried to wake up anyone inside. While no people were found, police were able to rescue a small dog that came to a door.
One officer received a cut from glass and drove himself to the hospital for treatment of the minor injury.
The fire call came in at six on Tuesday morning. Firemen were on the scene for about an hour and a half.
