Retired Salem Emergency Management Agency Coordinator Terry Mulvany has been honored by the State Emergency Management Agency.
Mayor Nick Farley presented the award to Mulvany at the city’s Christmas Party on Friday night. He noted Mulvany has been the eyes and ears of the city during severe weather, including two tornadoes.
The State of Illinois would like to recognize a very special individual. It says ‘Certificate of Recognition of your outstanding performance and commitment to serving the state of Illinois. The pursuit of excellence has no end, and we salute your unwavering commitment to outstanding personal performance. With that, I would like to recognize Mr. Terry Mulvany.”
Mulvany thanked those in the crowd for the recognition.
“It has been my pleasure to serve the people of Salem and the people of the surrounding area. I’ve had wonderful volunteers all 43 years. That’s all I am going to say. ”
Mulvany received a standing ovation.
Farley noted after the tornado hit the south side of town in March, the Mayor said he asked Mulvany ‘what do I do’. Farley says he was reassured by Mulvany there was a plan of what needed to be done.
