A mobile home in the Rolling Meadows Mobile Home Park on Route 37 four miles north of Mt. Vernon was heavily damaged by fire on Thursday.
Jefferson Fire reports the rear of the mobile home was engulfed in flames when firemen arrived on the scene. The fire was put out before spreading to the front part of the mobile home, but it had heavy smoke and heat damage.
Initial reports indicated there was a dog inside the home, but it was later learned the owner had earlier left with the dog. As of Friday morning, the owner has not been located.
The fire is being investigated by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s office.
Jefferson Fire received mutual aid assistance at the scene from Bluford, Kell and Mt. Vernon City Firemen, with Wayne City and Waltonville Firemen standing by at the Jefferson Fire Station in the event of another fire.
The fire call came in at 11:09 Thursday morning with firemen on the scene for about an hour and a half.
