A large crowd lined the streets for the 52nd Annual Little Egypt Festival Parade Saturday afternoon, ending a successful day for the festival.
The parade was led by multiple entries from the Marion County Fair Association with past and present members of the fair board serving as Grand Marshals. Current Fair Board President Doug Telford.
“I thought it was a very big honor that the Little Egypt Festival Committee asked us to be that. They were featuring agriculture and a lot of our Fair Board are Ag related. And it was a big honor to be thought of as the Grand Marshall. We were glad to participate in it and I thought it was a very good and well-run parade this year.”
Little Egypt Festival General Chair Jay Henke says all the events went well.
“A lot of good park stuff. I even saw Odin FFA had some stuff on the side of their float that was very educational. All the fair people, the Salem FFA, all the floats, they all had things to do with farming. It was really neat.”
Henke was also pleased to see crowds at the car show, kids’ activities, and the flea and craft vendors downtown. As far as next year is concerned.
“I know that it’s going to be a fun theme. We decided next year, whatever it is it’s just going to be really fun. That’s all I can say, it’s all I know so far.”
The Big Wheel Race winners were Karolina Harris and Zak Gansauer. Bikes were donated by the Salem Community Activities Center.
If you won a trophy in the parade and didn’t pick it up at the reviewing stand on Saturday, they are at the WJBD-WSIQ studios at 310 West McMackin Street in Salem and available for pickup from eight a.m. to four pm weekdays.
