The long wait is over as Dollar General officially opened its doors in Kinmundy on Friday.
Mayor Angie Diss says the 10,000-square-foot store went up quickly with construction starting in March but was a year and a half in planning.
“It’s awesome. We have been trying to attract businesses to town and we are very excited to have Dollar General here.”
Diss says in addition to the normal items carried by Dollar General, this store is also supplied with fresh fruits and vegetables.
Diss says attention will now turn to get another store.
“We would like to talk to someone from Casey’s. Our town needs gas, so we would like to attract a business like that.”
You haven’t been able to buy gas in Kinmundy for a number of years since the two service stations in town both stopped selling gas due to increased regulations on gas tanks.
Diss says in addition to offering a chance to get more items without leaving town, the stores will also build the city’s tax base.
