About 60 kids plus their parents attended the Salem Elk’s first-ever Youth Week Emergency Responders Day held in the Elk’s parking lot on Thursday.

Salem Mayor Nic Farley presented a proclamation declaring last week as Elk’s Youth Week to Bob Lafenhagen and the two coordinators of the Emergency Responder display Brad Hargis and Craig Vieira.

Salem Police, the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, Salem Fire Protection District, Salem Emergency Management Agency, and United Medical Response all participated in showing the young people the equipment used by their department.

The week also celebrated other youth activities conducted by the Salem Elks including the Hungry Hearts Food Program each summer when school is out, scholarship opportunities, the annual Elks Hoop Shoot, and several Sunday Chilcken Dinner Fundraisers to support local youth groups.
