2023 02/19 – Roy ‘Pete’ Smith

Roy ‘Pete’ Smith, 64, of Centralia, passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia with his family by his side.

He was born January 25, 1959 in Salem, Illinois, the son of George A. Smith and Betty Lee (Self) Smith. He married his loving wife of 44 years Margaret Sanecki on April 22, 1978.

In addition to his wife Margaret, he is survived by a son Travis Smith and wife Stacie (Hughes) of Centralia; a daughter: Shelby King and husband Rusty of Centralia; grandchildren: Hendrix Smith, Elric King, Jaxsun Smith, Rin King, and anxiously awaiting the birth of another grandchild in May; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents: George and Betty Smith, and a brother: Larry W. Smith.

Roy ‘Pete’ loved to fish, camp, and ride his motorcycle. He also enjoyed riding his horses. He did several homemade furniture pieces. He had many jobs over the years, working for the I.C. Railroad, then Valley Steel as a truck driver, meat cutter, and then a landlord. He especially loved being with his grandkids.

Funeral Services for Roy ‘Pete’ Smith will be held Sunday, February 19, 2023, at 2:00 PM at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia with Pastor Claude Howell officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Centralia. A visitation will be held Saturday, February 18, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
