Nancy C. Powell, 86, of Centralia, passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at Centralia Manor in Centralia.
She was born on August 9, 1936, the daughter of Clifford and Ella (Steffy) Ritter in Olney. She married William “Bill” Powell on December 23, 1966, in Centralia, sharing 34 years of marriage before Bill’s passing on October 23, 2001.
Survivors that will hold precious memories of Nancy include her beloved family, her children, David Reid of Schaumburg, Illinois, Brian Reid of Centralia Illinois, Lori (Tim) McDonnough of Centralia, Illinois, and Misty Rhoads of Mattoon, Illinois; her stepdaughters, Sharon (Darrell) Troyer of West Salem, Illinois, Alicia Yates of Olney, Illinois, and Theresa (Steve) Tarpley of West Salem, Illinois; 11 precious grandchildren; 11 cherished great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Along with her husband Bill Powell, Nancy was preceded in death by her birth and adoptive parents; her 10 siblings; and her stepson Roger Powell.
Nancy was always dedicated to a job well done and her admirable organization skills served her well in her occupation as secretary and bookkeeper for Powell Plumbing and Heating for 32 years, where she provided exemplary service. A lady of faith, Nancy was a member of the First Baptist Church in Centralia. She, along with her husband Bill, were church youth leaders who opened their home to many youths in Centralia, which left a positive impact on many lives. She enjoyed Bible study with her neighbors at Heritage Circle and had a deep knowledge of scripture. Most holidays included friends, as well as family, who gathered around her table to enjoy her superb cooking and baking skills. She also loved to read and during her younger years enjoyed various crafts. Nancy will always be remembered as a loving supportive grandma, who loved all her grandchildren deeply.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at the Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia with Pastor Tim Mondy officiating. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Centralia. Relatives and friends are welcome to a visitation time with Nancy’s family from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home in Centralia. Memorials may be made in Nancy’s honor to Wycliffe Bible Translators.
