Maxine Duncan Story, 98, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 10:11 am February 9, 2023, at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital.
She was born November 17, 1924, in Jefferson County, Illinois to the late Roy M. and Wilma (Rynski) Fitts. Maxine married Robert Glen Duncan and he preceded her in death. She late married Royal Story and he also preceded her in death.
Maxine is survived by her sons, Tommy Glen Duncan and wife, Phyllis of Mount Vernon and James Roy Duncan and wife, Diane of Ina, Illinois; grandchildren, Jeff Garner of Carterville, Illinois, Melanie and Tim Brant of Indianapolis, Indiana, Christy and Mike Taulbee of Ina, Illinois, Dawn Duncan, Ashley Duncan, Christopher Duncan, Brooke Antonio, Nathan and Julie Bullard, and Ethan and Courtney Bullard; great-grandchildren, Anthony McKinney and Trish of Woodlawn, Alex McKinney and Kassidy of Mount Vernon, Alexis McKinney of Ina, Illinois, Sean Brant and Sofia of Saint Louis, Missouri, Jacob Brant of Indianapolis, Indiana, Gabe Taulbee and Gavin Taulbee of Ina, Illinois Dave and Gordie Antonio, Drake and Chase Bullard, and Baylin Gentry, and Bowen Bullard; great-great-grandchildren, Ethan Fletcher of Mount Vernon, Illinois and Adlynn McKinney of Mount Vernon, Illinois; brother, Charles Fitts and wife, Anne of Indianapolis, Indiana; sister, Jeraldine Howard of Michigan, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Maxine was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert and Roy Lee Fitts.
Maxine and Robert owned and operated Duncan Pierce TV and she worked as the bookkeeper. She worked at Dobbs for years and later owned and operated Royal Glassware in Mount Vernon until failing health. Maxine loved her country music and loved to dance.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held Saturday, February 18, 2023, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at New Hope Church in Ina, Illinois. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 5:00 pm.
