Juanita Jean Evans, 88 of Carlyle, died on Sunday, January 29, 2023, with family at her side.
She was born on February 3, 1934, in Decatur, IL to Frank and Cecil Ballinger. She married Dwight (Spike) Evans on August 17th, 1952. He preceded her in death on June 3, 2010.
Mrs. Evans is survived by a daughter, Deborah Sorensen and husband William of Aurora, Nebraska; her daughter-in-law, Paulette (Kampwerth) Evans of Carlyle; five grandchildren, Cynthia (Sorensen) Campbell and husband Joe of Columbus, Nebraska, Carrie Sorensen of Lincoln, Nebraska, Nicole (Evans) Weh and husband Jered of Carlyle, Sara (Evans) Siegmund and husband Andrew of Vidalia, Georgia, and Eric Evans and husband Adam of Valparaiso, Indiana; eleven great-grandchildren, Joseph, Cassie, Caitlin, Cayla Campbell, Braden, Ashlyn and Eli Weh, Sadie, and Stella Seigmund, and Sawyer and Cora Evans-White; sister-in-law Linda Baldwin of Seymour, TN; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Darrell Evans on September 30th, 2017. Also preceding her in death were half-siblings and in-laws Paul and Clara Brosam, George and Jean Brosam, Reva and Joe Profeda; her father and mother-in-law, Roy and Minta Evans; and brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Evelyn Evans, Clarence (Barney) and Cleo Evans, Richard (Dick) and Ruth Evans, Rowenna and Harold Moorefield, Harold and Jeannie O’Donnel, Perry and Gennevieve Rannebarger, and Carold and Roth Ilers.
Juanita was a fixture in the Carlyle community for decades. Most people would remember her as the assistant librarian at Case Halstead Library. Juanita was quick to offer a smile or a book recommendation to library patrons. Juanita and Spike spent countless hours cheering on their grandchildren and great grandchildren at their various activities. They also enjoyed traveling around the United States and going to casinos, playing cards, dominoes and bingo. Juanita was always up for spending time with her family and friends. In her last years, Juanita lived at Villa Catherine in Carlyle and Cedarhurst in Breese. Juanita enjoyed the friendships she made with residents and staff. She loved going on community outings and rarely missed an activity. Juanita was a member of the Carlyle Christian Church where she served as secretary and treasurer. Juanita enjoyed singing hymns of praise and had tremendous faith in Jesus Christ her Savior.
A Funeral service for Mrs. Evans will take place on Friday, February 3, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at the Carlyle Christian Church with Rev. Josh Wolford, officiating. Visitation will take place from 9:00A.M. – 11:00 A.M. on February 3, 2023, at the Carlyle Christian Church. Interment will follow at Carlyle Township Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, or other gifts, memorials may be made to Carlyle Christian Church, Case Halstead Public Library, or the charity of the donor’s choice. Memorial donations will be received through Zieren Funeral Home.
