Marilyn Joan Holman, 91, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, went to be with her Lord at 9:28 pm on January 10, 2023, at Mount Vernon Countryside Manor.
She was born November 28, 1931, in Bonnie, Illinois to the late Neal and Roxie (Hughey) Wallace. She was raised by her stepmother, Lorene (Summers) Wallace. She first married Ivan E. McConnaughhay in 1953. Later in life, she married G.B. Holman, Jr.
Joan is survived by her son, Kevin McConnaughhay and wife, Teri of Iuka, Illinois; grandson, Michael McConnaughhay and wife, Alissa of Iuka; step-grandsons, Myles Allali and Samuel Allali; great-granddaughter, Maci McConnaughhay, and Mylee McConnaughhay; step-great-grandchildren, Felix Allali, and Jules Allali; sister-in-law, Doris Wallace of Mount Vernon; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her brother, Bobby Neal Wallace.
Joan was a poet and published writer. She was a columnist for the Register News for several years. A talented organist, playing the organ and singing at various restaurants in Mount Vernon. Joan was a beautiful, petite blonde with enormous blue eyes. She was a warm and gracious smile which reflects her love for family and people. On top of all this, she was an avid Saint Louis Cardinals fan. Joan retired from Illinois Bell. She was a faithful member of Logan Street Baptist Church. Joan will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. A Visitation will be held Monday, January 16, 2023, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon.
A Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 pm with Reverend Brian Fuller officiating. Interment will follow at McConnaughhay Cemetery in Farrington Township, Illinois.
