Joyce Ann Ellis, 80, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away on January 6, 2023, at her residence.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Julia Stevens of Iowa; her former husband, Ronald Ellis of Mount Vernon; a stillborn son, Jeremiah Ellis; and daughter, Carrie Ellis of Arizona.
She is survived by her daughters, Karla Sue Bowden, and Kimberly Ann Clifton and husband, Lou of Mount Vernon, Carmen Lee Overbey and husband, Ryan of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Chrystal Lynn Donoho and husband, Gene of New Baden, Illinois; sons, Kevin Ray Ellis and wife, Michelle of Las Vegas and Cleve Royal Ellis and wife, Angel of Mount Vernon, Illinois; sister, Janice Ellis Bean of Des Moines, Iowa; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Joyce Ann was a former employee of Little Fuse in Iowa as well as the Holiday Inn in Mount Vernon. She was of the Baptist Christian Faith and often donated gifts and cheer boxes to others as well as quilts, blankets, and pillows made at home. Her hobbies were thrifting, sending care boxes, and long chats on the phone. She was also known for her generous blood donations for sixty years. She was a very humorous and easygoing woman who loved to cook. Her signature family dishes were scalloped potatoes, Joyce’s fried chicken, her seven-bean salad, jam thumbprint cookies, and million-dollar fudge. Her favorite television shows were Young Sheldon, Unsolved Mysteries, and the History Channel. She was a very sharp dresser and loved collecting purses, shoes, and coats. Her favorite bible scripture was Proverbs 3:5-6 and her favorite song was just a closer walk with thee. She often had the music turned up very high listening to Fats Domino and was always upbeat ready to tackle and the day brought her way.
