Carolyn June (Copple) Chambers, age 86, of Centralia, Illinois, passed away peacefully at 7:23 P.M. on Tuesday, January 3rd, 2023, at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
She was born on June 2nd, 1936, in Centralia, Illinois, the daughter of Lowell Howard and Wilma Frances (Shaw) Copple. She married Charles E. “Charlie” Chambers, Jr., on September 16th, 1955, at Little Grove Christian Church in Walnut Hill, Illinois, and he preceded her in death on September 13, 2020.
Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Debbie Fischer and husband Mike of St. Charles, Missouri; son, Brad Chambers and wife Val of Franklin, Tennessee; granddaughters, Sarah Barroway and husband Andy of Scottsdale, Arizona, Hannah Bonham and husband Steve of Cypress, Texas, and Mary Roberts and husband Brandon of Normal, Illinois; and great-grandchildren, Ben Barroway and Blair Barroway, Silas Roberts and Grant Bonham. Carolyn is survived by her sisters, Pauline Marlow of Waco, Texas, and Barbara Shafer and husband Phil of Mount Vernon, Illinois, and former daughter-in-law, Cindy Chambers of Morton, Illinois. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her loving husband of 65 years, Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Lowell and Wilma Copple; brother, David Copple and wife Martha Copple; and sister, Judy Koelmel and husband Dale Koelmel.
Carolyn was a member of Little Grove Christian Church in Centralia, Illinois, for many years. In 1963, she became a member of Hickory Street Christian Church, now Calumet Street Christian Church. She served as a Sunday School teacher and Vacation Bible School teacher for many years and served where needed. She was a member of the Christian Women’s Fellowship group. Carolyn loved playing cards especially Five Crowns with her friends, going to Florida, and cheering for the St. Louis Cardinals!
Carolyn worked as a bookkeeper at Rodenberg Business Store in Centralia, Illinois, Lear Siegler Heating Company in Centralia, Illinois, for fifteen years, and as a bookkeeper at First State Bank for thirteen years and Region Bank in Centralia, Illinois. She attended Post Oak and Copple Schools in Walnut Hill, Illinois, and graduated from College School in Dix, Illinois. She graduated with Centralia Township High School’s “Class of 1954”. She lived most of her life in Centralia, Illinois.
Celebration of Life Services for Mrs. Carolyn June Chambers will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at Calumet Street Christian Church in Centralia, Illinois, with Mr. John Willis officiating. Private inurnment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park near Centralia, Illinois.
