Katherine M. Toney, 95, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 3:56 pm on January 2, 2023, at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
She was born February 23, 1927, in Boyd, Illinois to the late Walter E. and Ora (Elliston) Piercy.
Katherine is survived by her son, Danny Hoeinghaus and wife, Jeanette of Kinmundy, Illinois; grandsons, Glen Dale Hoeinghaus and wife, Nicki of Geneva, Illinois, Derek Hoeinghaus of DuQuoin, Illinois; step-granddaughters, Rachel Steibel and husband, Tony of Prairie DuRocher, Illinois, and Sarah Epplin of Mount Vernon, Illinois; great-grandchildren, Ben Heoinghaus and Jax Hoeinghause; step-great-grandchildren, Myranda Ellison, Veronica Steibel, Julia Hartman, and Eli Epplin; step great-great-granddaughter, Hazel Hartman; brother, Leroy Piercy of Mount Vernon, Illinois; and sisters-in-law, Doris Jean Piercy of Tuscola, Illinois and Priscilla Piercy of Houston, Texas.
In addition to her parents, Katherine was preceded in death by her son, Dale Hoeinghaus; husbands, Gilbert Hoeinghaus and Robert Toney; siblings, Louise Bruce, Elsie Parker, Verner Piercy, Clarence Piercy, Bob Piercy, and Bill Piercy; sisters-in-law, Doris Piercy, Mary Piercy, Marilyn Piercy, and Dorothy Piercy; and brothers-in-law, Everett Bruce and Bob Parker.
Katherine worked at Salem Gravure World Color Press, Ashley Candy Factory, Centralia Candy Factory, and the Gold Gallery in Mount Vernon Mall. She was of the Pentecostal faith and belonged to the Mount Vernon Chapter #233 Order of Eastern Star. Kate was devoted to her large extended family and enjoyed spending time with them. She liked traveling, decorating her home, and flower gardening. She was a beautiful lady and will be missed by all who knew her.
A Visitation will be held Thursday, January 5, 2023, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 am with Reverend Gary Piercy officiating assisted by Reverend Steve Piercy and Reverend Duane Piercy. Interment will follow at Boyd Cemetery in Jefferson County, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Katherine’s honor to Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
