A fire at a Sandoval home was confined to the two front rooms and the front porch early Tuesday night.

Sandoval Fire Chief Chad Parson says Mike Wooden had left his home at 223 Isle for a short time and returned to find fire in the front of the home.   Wooden reported when a window broke out, the fire apparently got oxygen and took off.

Parson says they were able to get a quick knockdown and were able to keep the fire from spreading to the rest of the home.  However, it had heat and smoke damage.

While the fire never broke through the roof, Parson says that was a concern and the reason he called Odin, Centralia Fire Protection District and Centralia City Firemen to the scene for mutual aid and had Patoka standby at the Sandoval fire station in the event of another fire.

Wooden indicated there was a space heater in the area the fire appeared to have started and is believed to be the source of the fire.  The State Fire Marshal’s office was going to further investigate the cause on Wednesday.

Firemen received the call at 4:13 Tuesday afternoon and remained at the scene for three and a half hours.    There were no injuries in fighting the fire.

The Red Cross was called to assist Wooden.
