Vacant Centralia home destroyed by fire

A vacant Centralia home was destroyed by fire early Monday morning.

The home was at 1021 South Elm.  Centralia Fire Officials say according to Marion County GIS records, the owner is David Hopper.

The northeast corner of the home was on fire when firefighters arrived on the scene at 2:49 Monday morning.   All available city firefighters along with the Centralia Fire Protection District were called to the scene, while Sandoval Firemen stood by at the Centralia City Fire Station in the event of another fire.  The fire spread through the rest of the home and an attached garage.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.   There was electricity to the home that was shut off by an Ameren crew.

No injuries were reported.

Firemen were on the scene until seven Monday morning.
