Salem Mayor Nic Farley and two candidates for the two open city council seats were on hand when filing for the April municipal elections opened at 7:30 Monday morning at Salem City Hall.
Farley is seeking a four year term as mayor.
“The work we’ve done the last year and a half and I feel there are some projects I would like to continue to work on and finish. Been blessed the public has been supportive so far of me as mayor and I think I can continue to work well with the council to make sure economic development continues to happen in Salem.”
So far, no other petitions are out for mayor.
Filing for City Council will Jeff Baldridge and Neal Canon.
Baldridge is a newcomer to politics.
“62 years old retired from the Federal Government six years ago. I have free time and would like to see the city advance and do the best we can do.”
Baldridge would like to see progress on the new police station.
This is Canon’s third attempt to seek a city council seat.
“I feel that I can add something to it. Christian principals with new blood even though I’m an older gentleman. Making Salem a better place for my kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. It’s a pleasure to live in Salem, we have a great town. A lot of possibilities, a lot of things going on with a lot of great candidates in this election. We are just going to try to do the best we can to make Salem a better place.”
There will be a lottery to determine if Baldridge or Canon will be first on the ballot. The filing period continues Tuesday and Wednesday 7:30 am to 4:30 pm and then again next Monday from 7:30 to 5 at City Hall.
