2022 11/18 – Matthew Scott Setzekorn

Matthew Scott Setzekorn, 43, of Richview passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at SSM Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on April 27, 1979, the son of David and Peggy (Niederhofer) Setzekorn in Centralia. He married the love of his life and his best friend, Karla Schibbelhut on May 10, 2020, at the Washington County Courthouse and she survives him in Richview.

Along with his beloved wife, Karla Setzekorn, Matt is survived by his children, Maddalynn Prince (Colter) of Mt. Vernon, and Savannah Bricker of Woodlawn; stepson Mikell Hollinger of Farmington, Missouri; his first grandbaby, expected in June 2023; mother Peggy (Terrell) Edmunds of Hickory, North Carolina; brother Jonathan (Michelle) Setzekorn of Concord North Carolina; maternal grandmother Joann Niederhofer of Richview; aunts and uncle Emma Lou Mueller of Okawville, Sheila Niederhofer of Centralia, and Larry (Debbie) Niederhofer of Richview; and many nieces and nephews.

Matt was preceded in death by his father David Setzekorn; mother-in-law and father-in-law Lillian and LeRoy Schibbelhut; paternal grandparents Trevor and Fern Setzekorn; maternal grandfather Roy Niederhofer; uncle Leroy Niederhofer; and aunt Linda Partain.

Matt graduated from Centralia High School, Class of 1997. He was able to lend his athletic talents to the basketball team and the track team. He was a member of the Richview United Methodist Church. Matt had many interests, he was an accomplished woodworker, creating beautiful wood pieces. He liked the peacefulness of a day spent fishing and was especially grateful when they were biting. Matt had an amazing sense of humor and a contagious personality, who had the ability to keep everyone laughing. He was great at cooking on the smoker, enjoyed time camping out, and playing games with his family. Matt loved to dance with his daughters and sing his favorite Johnny Cash songs at the top of his lungs with them. He was a true animal lover and was known to spoil his dogs whenever he could. Matt was generous beyond words and would give anyone the shirt off his back if they were in need. His big, caring, kind heart was a true blessing to his family who meant the world to Matt.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 18, 2022, at the Richview United Methodist Church in Richview with Rev. Mark Myers officiating. Friends and relatives are welcome to a visitation time from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the church in Richview. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Matt’s honor to Irvin Macz Funeral Home to assist the family with services.
