Jean Marilyn Davis, 92, of Dix, Illinois, passed away Friday, October 28, 2022, at Deaconess Hospital, in Newburgh, Indiana.
She was born April 1, 1930, in Wood River, Illinois, the daughter of Luther and Leona Rose (Schoeneweis) Dake. On March 18, 1950, at First Baptist Church of Wood River, Illinois, she married Russell Wayne Davis, and he preceded her in death on August 5, 2006.
Jean and Russell met at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, at the Baptist Student Union. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Jean enjoyed quilting, reading, cooking, Cardinals baseball, and spending time with her many friends. She also enjoyed playing golf, which she played until she was 80 years old. Most importantly, she fervently prayed for her family.
Jean is survived by three children, David M. Davis and wife Patty of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, and their children Michael Davis and wife Hannah, and their daughter, Rowan Davis, of Pasadena, California, and Kiley Salmons and husband Dustin, and their children, Davis and Louise Salmons, of Kansas City, Missouri, and James K. Davis and wife Wendy of South Palm Beach, Florida, and their children, Jeremy Davis and wife Stephanie, and their son, Larry Davis, of Highland Park, Illinois, Rachel Crum and husband Michael, and their children Russell and Maggie Crum, of Royal Palm Beach, Florida, Jon Davis and wife Tian of Royal Palm Beach, Florida, and Andrew Davis and wife Patricia of Greenacres, Florida, and Lynne M. Mills and husband Robert of Topeka, Kansas, and their children Emily Mills of Kansas City, Missouri, Brittney Vogel and husband Jon, and their children Forest and Marley Vogel of Topeka, Kansas, and Jordan Mills and wife Baoting, and their daughter Gabriella, of Topeka, Kansas. She is also survived by brother Bob Dake and wife Ginny of Wood River, Illinois, and daughters Pam Kellim and family and Patti Ward and family, and sister-in-law Shirley Ruthven and husband Bill of Florida.
In addition to her husband, Russell Wayne Davis, she was preceded in death by her parents; infant brother, Donald Ray Dake; and great-granddaughter, Tobi Vogel.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Davis will be held at 12:00 p.m. (noon), Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, with Rev. Robert T. Mills and Rev. Jason Webb officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 2, 2022, from 10:00 a.m., until the hour of service, at the church.
