Dale Lagow, 89, of Iuka, Illinois passed away on October 26, 2022, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois.Born November 8, 1932, in Iuka, he was the son of Lowell A. and Pearl (Clark) Lagow who preceded him in death.Public visitation will be held Tuesday, November 1, 2022, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the Sutherland – Rankin Funeral Home, P.O. Box 97, 310 N. Broadway, Salem, IL 62881 (618) 548-1234, entrusted with the family’s care. Graveside services and inurnment will be held at 11:00 am Thursday at the Iuka Cemetery. Jim Beaty will officiate with military honors accorded graveside by the Salem American Legion Post #128. They also suggest memorials to honor their father’s life be made to the Donor’s choice and will be accepted by the funeral home or mailed directly to the family.Dale was encouraged by his parents to pursue his education. Taking full advantage of that opportunity, he began his college career by first attending Centralia Junior College where he studied for two years. He then enrolled at SIU for one year, followed by attending Eastern Illinois College and the University of Arkansas. He completed one year at McKendree College in Lebanon earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1971 with a major in education and a minor in history. He began his career teaching music at the Xenia Grade School, followed by teaching 5th grade at the Iuka Grade School. He supported the school system in many ways, especially by attending all of the grade school ball games and driving the school bus. His family will remember his love for family, spending hours barbecuing and making homemade ice cream with them. He enjoyed mowing yards, gardening, hunting, fishing, and just being involved in anything about nature and the outdoors. He enjoyed watching game shows on television and was a die-hard Cardinal baseball fan. He was a member of the Iuka United Methodist Church. An accomplished pianist, he will be remembered accompanying various gospel groups including the Overland Quartet, the Bartley’s and Faith, Sacred Hearts, and Living Proof. He enjoyed attending Gospel Concerts with Peggy. Dale was a hard worker farming 500 acres of land in addition to his career in education. He faithfully served in the United States Army.On February 12, 1955, he united in marriage with Peggy Louise Fatheree in Iuka. She preceded him in death on July 23, 2019.Surviving are his daughters, Sherry Baker of Kell, IL, Cindy Loss and husband Martin of Salem, IL, and Janie Colclasure and husband Dale of Kinmundy, IL Also his grandchildren Laura (Tyler) Sheathelm of Carlyle, IL; Stephen (Beth) Baker of Carlyle, IL; Nathan (Lindsay) Smith of Clay City, IL; Derek (Erin) Smith of Iuka, IL, and Natasha (Cody) Buchanan of Salem, IL. Great grandchildren include Cidney and Laney Baker; Camryn Baker and her mother Shala Carson of Glen Carbon, IL; Gracie and Nolan Smith; Jamie, Eliza, Bailey and Ian Smith, Matthew, Cadence, Easton, and William Buchanan.In addition to his loving wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Joel Baker, and brothers Glen C. Lagow and Lowell Gleason Lagow.
