Loye R. Stein, a beloved brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 13th, 2026, at the age of 81. Born on July 4th, 1945, in Breese, Illinois, the son of Robert H. Stein and Bessie I. (Carson) Stein.

Loye grew up with a love for learning and graduated from high school in 1963. Soon after, he answered his nation’s call by serving honorably in the United States Air Force from October 5, 1965, to February 28, 1969. Following his military service, Loye embarked on a distinguished career as a technician with AT&T, where he worked until his retirement in 1995. A man of faith, Loye was a devoted member of the Methodist Church in Shattuc. He found fellowship and camaraderie as a Mason, contributing his time and energy to enrich the lives of those around him.

Loye is survived by his loving sister, Margie Edel of Woodriver, Illinois, nephew and nieces: Michael C. Edel of Wood River, Minna (James) Holloway of Allen, TX, Melissa (Travis) Appelhans of Grand Lake, CO; great-nephews: Michael T. (Janie) Edel, Lily, Jamie, and Anthony Holloway, Trustin Appelhans; 2 great great-nieces: Ellie Edel and Emory Edel.

Loye is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Bessie Stein and brother-in-law: Michael J. Edel.

To honor Loye’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A private family service will be held at a later date, where he will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Centralia, Illinois. The Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home, located at 235 North Sycamore Street, Centralia, Illinois, is honored to serve the Stein family during this time of loss.
