The Salem City Council has entered into a five-year agreement with the Marion County Board to merge the city’s emergency management agency into the county’s. The county has agreed to keep the city’s accreditation in place. Any grant money received by the city would be turned over to the county organization. The county will also get the city’s three Emergency Management vehicles, but those will have to be returned if the agreement ends before the five-year period.
The council agreed to a one-year lease for a building at 638 East Main to be used for storage. The agreement will continue one year at a time until either side ends the contract.
Public Works Director Travis Sanders was given permission to work with the city mechanic to locate a used dump truck for under the $100,000 in the budget.
The council approved repairs to the west high service pump at the water treatment plant. It has been damaged by scale that caused the other high service pump to quit working last year. Repairs are expected to cost under $25,000.
The TIF #3 agreement with TruSwing, LLC was amended to put owner Brian Pennypacker’s name in the ownership so he can be reimbursed through the TIF agreement for part of the money he paid for the building.
The council passed a resolution at the suggestion of the Illinois Municipal League to honor the 250th birthday of the United States.
