The Salem Family Aquatic Center was unable to open as scheduled on Saturday due to temperatures under 70 degrees, and will try again on Sunday for opening day. However, rain could be a factor there. The aquatic center was scheduled to be open Memorial Day weekend, then close again on Tuesday, before reopening for the rest of the season from next Friday through August 9th.
General swim will be available again this year from noon to six every afternoon. Salem Parks and Recreation Director Jed Casburn says some other features will return this year.
We are still offering early morning swim, and you can get those passes on our website salemfamilyaquaticcenter.us. Basically, all our swim lessons this year are in June and are also available on the website.”
Early-morning swim is from 5:30 to 7:45, Monday through Friday. Admission is the same as last year: free for ages 2 and under, $7 for ages 3 to 64, and $3 for ages 65 and over. An individual pass for the season is $150, with family passes for up to four members costing $300. Early swim costs $5 or $100 for the season. You can pay for passes online or in person at the center.
Casburn says some new play features are coming, but will not be in place for the season opening.
“We’re going to get a top feature in the tot pool. We’ll get that upgraded. Our new floatables are basically in the rope crossing area. There will be some starfish for the kids to jump on and actually get all the way across. We just had one recently. We’re excited to keep upgrading the pool.”
Casburn says no date has yet been set for the installation of the new play items.
Unlike a few past years, he reports they had no trouble finding employees, with 75 to 80 percent returning from last year.
